Long Live Diversity
Caleb Kwok
I had the opportunity to live in China for 5 years while my father worked there. This project feels uniquely personal because I’ve never done self-examination like this, I largely just go with the flow of how people see me. My concept for this piece was to present a stereotypical representation of me as a patriotic Chinese man reminiscent of propaganda posters, versus one of the things I’m actually passionate about. I recently cut my hair short after almost 2 years of having it long, and once I did I got a lot of comments comparing me to Kpop stars, a pro gamer called TenZ, and even Eren from Attack on Titan. I just want to be seen as Caleb, an artist, game enthusiast, and someone you can ask to grab stuff from top shelves at the store.
