What is something people might not know about your when they first meet you?

Something that people might not know about me is that I enjoy playing video games in my free time. I also am a Psychology major in my senior year.

What made you select this particular article?

I selected this particular article because I wanted to target the LGBTQ+ community because I identify as LGBTQ+. Also, I felt that this article is just one of the many discriminatory acts that the community faces on a daily basis, and I feel that it is important to spread awareness.

What might be missing from the story that would be important for readers to know?

It would be important for readers to know that the officer allegedly called McDade the n-word before shooting him. Also, the court ruled that police force was justified. McDade also allegedly pointed a gun at the officer when he was shot. 

Share a little bit about your empathy towards the victim or victims family.

I have a lot of empathy towards the victim’s family. I have friends who identify as transgender, and I don’t know what I would do if one of them got shot and killed. I also am a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and I have to be aware of the dangers I face every time I go out and consider how my family would feel if something similar happened to me.
