Me If I was Me
Yasmine Lee
This piece is about me versus an idealized version of myself that is rooted in “positive traits” traditionally associated with women, Asians, etc from both Asian-American and Korean immigrants perspectives. I want to be seen as a well-rounded person whose thoughts, ideas, and quirks are respected equally. Many are disappointed based on their perception of what I should be since I am very independent as a person and do not force myself to abide by concepts traditionally associated with Asians (culture-heavy, family-oriented, collectivist mindset).
